Zitan is located in the delightful little town/village of Thornhill in Dumfries & Galloway; about 13 miles north of Dumfries on the A76, Thornhill is widely recognised as a treasure trove of independent specialist shops selling a varied range of antiques and other interesting items. With something for everyone and with plenty of on-street free parking, excellent restaurants and comfortable hotels make Thornhill an ideal location for a whole day or weekend shopping trip.
Zitan initially started business in August 2005 selling Chinese antiques, furniture and gift items and was based at 45 Drumlanrig Street in Thornhill - a delightful setting, but the success of the shop outgrew the building as stock was upgraded and extended. The new move to Virginhall, a wonderful old red sandstone church was a marvellous opportunity to relocate to a truly splendid site in a magnificent building.
We now have a fabulous space for all the wonderful Chinese stock downstairs and a new gallery upstairs which we are using to showcase local crafts such as pottery and ceramics, sculpture, photography, picture framing, home made soaps, wood-turning, cards and wrapping paper and general gifts all at very reasonable prices.
You are cordially invited to visit the shop and delight in the discovery of pieces of Chinese furniture and curios whilst knowledgeable staff present details of the age of each piece, wood used and the area of China where each piece originated. In no time you will come to appreciate the wonderful skills of the people who produced these beautiful exquisite goods.
Visitors to the shop will also find a range of clothing, original Chinese paintings, brass, brocade and silk items and the gifts in the gallery which are not yet available online.
