Antique wardrobe with black lacquered panels
This is an example of antique Chinese cabinet making at its most delightful. A lacquered panel wardrobe in two pieces. Inside the upper section is a hanging rail and shelves. The insides of the doors have ornate floral paintings. The light wood of the exterior contrasts beautifully with the eight black lacquer panels. They are painted in gold, with flowers in the 6 small ones, and domestic scenes in the two main panels. The lower section just comprises two small panelled doors enclosing a space.
Each section has two doors which have lovely old paintings on the insides. It comes from Guangdong in Southern China and dates from 1850 to 1920.
